Newborns:

SIROCCO STRAWBERRY x SIROCCO AMADEUS

 (Mum)

 (Dad)

Four little babies were delivered on Friday the 13th September 2013 at about 6:30pm. Two little ladies: 'Sirocco Blackberry' and 'Sirocco Bittersweet', and two little men: 'Sirocco Bearberry' and 'Sirocco Blueberry'.

 (Mum)

 (Dad)

One big little bub was born on the 7th August 2013. We've called him 'Sirocco Hunter'.

SIROCCO TLALLI x SIROCCO SYLVESTER

 (Mum)

 (Dad)

Tlalli delivered 4 big bubs on Monday the 5th August 2013 right in the middle of playgroup here at our house. The bubs looked great at the get-go, but sadly none of the litter survived past 1 week old. We're not sure what happened, but Tlalli wasn't the most attentive mum, and I think her bubs just didn't get the care from her they needed.

SIROCCO ARABELLA x SIROCCO AMADEUS

 (Mum)

 (Dad)

Late in the afternoon on the 2nd August 2013 Arabella delivered her babies. She had 4 born when I found her, but one was stillborn. She was contracting for ages with nothing happening. I ended up having to help her out as her last bub was transverse (sideways). He was finally delivered 2hrs later, but also stillborn. The surviving bubs were two little girls: 'Sirocco Evensong' and 'Sirocco Eternity', and one little man: 'Sirocco Everhart'. Sadly only Everhart survived the first crucial week of life, his sisters were just too small.

INDIGO x HAZELRON ROMEO

Indigo delivered three little cuties on the 1st August 2013. Two little boys: 'Sirocco Mercury' and 'Sirocco Macbeth' and one little lady: 'Sirocco Myrrhini'.

SIROCCO OPAL x SIROCCO SYLVESTER

 (Opal - mumma pig)

 (Sylvester - Daddy pig)

Opal delivered a gorgeous litter of three pedigree texel bubs on the 14th July 2013. We got two boars and a sow, but sadly lost one of the boars (little guy shown below) 24hrs after his birth.

MEADOW x ASHER

 (Meadow - mumma pig)

 (Asher - daddy pig)

Meadow and Asher welcomed three handsome little men into the world on the 1st July. We got a texel coated boy (Harry), a curly-sheba coated boy (Hamish) and a sheba coated boy (Heath). All silver and cinnamon agouti and white - just stunning bubs!

BLESSING x ASHER

(Blessing - mumma pig - curly-sheba style)

(Asher - daddy pig - curly sheba style)

Blessing delivered two stunning sows on Saturday the 22nd June 2013. One texel-coated girl we called 'Bonita', and one curly-sheba coated sow called 'Bindi'. Both weighing in around the 90-100g range. Very good healthy sizes.

EVANGELINE x ASHER

(mumma pig - our 'Evangeline', sheba-style coat)

(Daddy pig - our 'Asher' - curly-sheba style coat)

Evangeline delivered three big babies ranging from 90g to 100g on the 20th June 2013. Sadly the only girl, and only curly-sheba style bub in the litter was DOA. The surviving bubs are both boars, one is a cinnamon agouti and white texel boar, the other a silver agouti and white sheltie boar. Both pets, but purebred for the long-coat.

SIROCCO TIIVA x HAZELRON ROMEO

(Sirocco Tiiva - pedigree texel - mumma pig)

(Hazelron Romeo - pedigree texel - daddy pig)

Tiiva delivered one big baby boy later in the morning on Tuesday the 18th June 2013. He is gold agouti, gold and white, and appears to have a satin (shiny) coat. We called him 'Montezuma' and he weighed in at 140g.

CLEO x ASHER

 (Cleo - mumma pig)

Cleo delivered four little babies, fathered by our Asher on Tuesday the 18th June 2013. I think the babies were slightly early, as weights ranged from 60g to 80g and the babies did not seem as strong/padded as they could have been. Sadly, after 4 days of life - all 4 babies passed away. This will be Cleo's final litter.

 (Asher - daddy pig)

KOBE x UNNOWN BOAR

The gorgeous Kobe delivered 4 gorgeous big baby girls on the 27th May 2013. We think daddy-pig was the same boar who fathered Kobe's cage-mate Cupcake's litter last month - see last photo.

(possibly the daddy pig)

ENGLISH ROSE VIOLET x SIROCCO SYLVESTER

 (mumma-  English Rose Violet)

( Dad - Sirocco Sylvester)

One big baby boy was born to Violet and Sylvester on the 24th May 2013. The cutest, fattest little man - we called 'Sirocco Maximus'.

INDIGO x SIROCCO SYLVESTER

Indigo delivered one big single boy bub on the 22nd May 2013. We called him Sirocco Periwinkle.

BAMBI x TALBOT

Bambi - mumma pig. A little bizarre to have an aerial shot, but this gives the best look at her stunning coat. She is a curly-sheba style cavy.

Talbot is daddy pig. He is sheba-style, but carries the curly gene.

Three little bubs were born on sunday the 5th May 2013. One little lady we named 'May' who ended up with the classic straight coated sheba hair style, and two little boys both in curls. Mowgli (directly below) has oddly placed rosettes that may not give us the lift we need. Major (far below) has better placement, but a nearly all white coat again... so is going to be a pain in the butt to keep clean! lol

CUPCAKE x UNKNOWN BOAR

This is mumma pig - 'Cupcake' - she is a pet from unknown origins, probably rex x merino or something along those lines.

After lots of deductions between myself and Cupcake's original owner, we believe this is most likely the boar that is daddy to the litter.

Cupcake delivered 4 big tri-colour bubs on Anzac day (25/4/13). Two girls - Poppy (see above) who is pet abyssinian coated, possible sheba-looking if this coat grows. Princess (see below), who is curly-coated but with ridge-placed rosettes. She will look bizarre if this coat grows out as well!

Peace is one of the little boys, also in a gorgeous curly coat, but this time no rosettes. He'll either look pet-rex or pet-texel when he's a big boy. And below we have 'Patch', he is a tri-colour smooth coat. But may end up looking sheltie.

(all 4 bubs at 2 days old)

(Sirocco Amore - Chocolate agouti (Chocolate base, red/gold ticking) and white pedigree texel sow born on the 10th March 2013)

(Sirocco Amadeus - Gold Agouti (Black base, gold ticking) and white pedigree texel boar)

BLACK BEAUTY x GIZMO

Black Beauty (above) and Gizmo (below) welcomed 5 little curly sheba pet bubs into the world at approx 3pm on monday the 11th Feb 2013.

Three little boys (Salem, Safi and Scout) and two little girls (Sarabi and silk). Sadly Silk and Safi did not survive their first few days of life. They did not have enough fight in them.

CHLOE x MARQUISE

Chloe delivered two big babies on the 26th Jan 2013 (Australia Day). The first born was a lilac and white boar, but he was stillborn. The second born was a tri-agouti girl we called Amarina. She weighed in at 100g and has gorgeous big tight curls. She is a pet texel, from mixed pet/pedigree ancestry. But has ear folds on each ear - which is a fault for the breed.

INDIGO x SIROCCO SEBASTIAN

(Indigo - Mum)

(Sebastian - Dad)

Indigo delivered 4 tiny little boys on the 20th Jan 2013. She over-cleaned the first born's foot, and ended up removing/damaging 2 of his 4 toes. He was in a lot of pain, and wasn't able to walk on it until he was about 4 days old. All babies were only 40-60g in weight, and not very strong. Indigo refused to have anything to do with them, so we supplement fed all babies. They survived until 10-11 days old, and were very active and vocal - when they all started to deteriorate quickly. Supplemental milk formulas for small mammals like guinea pigs are not enough nutritionally. We were adding capsium gratings/juice for Vit C, and  fresh cut grass for fibre - but the boys refused to eat on their own. We do not know if something else was going on for them - or if it was simply a case of failing to thrive.

RIP little men.

(Sadly none of the babies in this litter survived)

EVANGELINE x SIROCCO TAO

(Evangeline - Mum)

Somewhere in the early hours of the 11th Jan 2013, Evangeline our sheba-coated sow delivered three big beautiful baby boys - two sheba-looking, and one Angora. The daddy was our texel boar 'Tao' shown below.

(Sirocco Tao - Dad)

'Asher' is our angora boy (curly-coated sheba). He is cinnamon agouti (choc base, silver ticking) and white. He weighed 85g.

This 'Aslan', he is a sheba-coated boar in gold agouti (black base, gold ticking). He weighed 95g.

And this is 'Atlas'. He is silver agouti and white, and looks like he might end up a little more peruvian looking. He weighed in at 85g.

  1. Hi. I'm really glad I found your site...has been very informative. My daughter who is 10 years old saved her money and purchased two guinea pigs... a male and female. We have them a pretty nice two level home that ensures plenty of space and privacy. The male and female are in separate areas...different levels. Anyway, the female was apparently pregnant and began to act strange yesterday. Refusing food other than an apple and water. This evening she gave birth to 5 hairless still born babies...their eyes appeared to be fused closed and the mother ate half of one. I carefully removed all of the babies and ensured that she had clean fresh bedding. She seems fine at this point, however I am quite sure that such an experience must be hard on her physiologically as well as emotionally. I do not know enough about these animals to breed them, however I am now concerned about her well being even though she seems ok and is now grooming herself. Any advice? Thanks

  2. Hi, I'm so glad you found our blog. If the babies were hairless they were undoubtedly born too early and would not have been able to survive. If mum was very young, she may not have been physically big enough to carry such a large litter to term. If she seems bright and well and is eating and grooming herself then she should be fine. Just keep an eye on her for bleeding. If it continues on past 48hrs following delivery, she may have retained some placenta. A vet would need to check her over.

  3. I am so glad I found this site.
I have 2 guinea pigs, 1 Abyssinian male black/orange which is a male, and a Orangish brown with white female.
Now, I had purchased the male from a pet shop when he was larger, dude charged me $40 for him too! The female, I got when she was actually ready to be sold through a friends pet shop.
Now, my female is happy and healthy, constantly squeaking and chirping, eating and drinking perfectly, and she is pregnant. I felt her belly and she is having at least 4 babies.
Will her babies be alright since she is in good health?

    1. There are lots of contributing factors(leathal pairing, age of sow,etc...)

  4. HI! I am going to place my male piggie make female piggie. Both are brown/golden/white and in perfect health conditions, but i am still unsure if i should get my female pregnant or not. Also, they are my only piggies so it would be really sad if the female got sick or something.. Any advice on how to place the male with my female without fight?
