Our last litter for 2016

One of our beautiful white alpaca mums delivered her last litter of bubs last week, which also happens to be our last litter for 2016. Two little boys and one girl with weights of 101g, 120g and 99g - so nice BIG bubbas!

We happened to get a little video of mum cleaning them, which you can find on our Instagram account too.

babies growing up fast

The bubs from our late July litters have just been weaned. Look at this gorgeous little balls of fur! They have all found wonderful new families as well. I'm looking forward to receiving progress photos of these guys as they grow and mature.

We likely won't have any more litters until late Spring. And then that will be it for 2016 :)

Just a few quick newborn photos of the bubs born on the 17th and 20th of July. A mix of coat types (sheba-type, peruvian-type, sheltie-type and alpaca-type).

Sweet Olaf and the new hammocks

How gorgeous is that little face!!!? This is 'Olaf', our youngest bub in the current batch of babies. He is a white alpaca with one gold eye-patch and one black eye-patch! He already has his new home lined up with one of his brothers :)

We've also just updated our store with some new fleece hammocks. There's only a few available in each colour, so check them out if you're interested.

(Hammocks are great if you want to add a bit of extra space/or something of interest to a cage. The pigs might just hide under it at first, but eventually they'll jump up and discover how comfy they are to sleep in!)

Rainbow guinea pig

How sweet is this little fellow!? He was made as a custom order for a fellow guinea-pig enthusiast in the UK.

We used a piece of our hand-dyed alpaca fur (alpaca's are given haircuts, then their fur is woven onto a cotton backing making the most incredible fabric for teddy bear and soft-sculpture creations! Occasionally we hand-dye this exquisite fur and end up with rainbows that make stunning critters).

This is our first piggy made in the fur though - and it's awesome! Not terribly realistic, but so sweet nonetheless! (You can see more realistic versions of our design on our etsy store)

~

Also, we've had a few litters of long-haired bubs born over the last few weeks. These will be our last available bubs for quite a while. We'll have progress photos of their coats next week :)

Apologies and welcome

A very warm welcome to all of the new blog visitors we've had over the last week! It's lovely to have you stop by. I hope you're able to find what you're looking for in terms of guinea-pig related information, or are simply enjoying the thousands of guinea pig photos we've posted over the years.

Appologies for the lack of posts here lately, there's not a lot is happening with the pigs this year. Our breeding program is now VERY small, and we are only averaging one litter once in a blue moon. Most of our girls are retired and enjoying life in their massive grass hutch (that I have to haul around the yard every day! Have I mentioned how HEAVY that bloody thing is!!!?).

We now only have one male - our black/white-nose peruvian boar born here last year. We've kept him on just as pet and occasional stud-boy (there were some genetic quirks I wanted to confirm with his line, but he will likely end up desexed long term.

But other then that - there's not much more to report. So i'll just re-post a few of my favourite old photos from the earlier years of this blog. Past pigs who have since passed away, but lived long happy piggy lives while they were here.

And as always, if you're looking for any cavy-related bedding, feel free to check out our available stock. There's not a lot as I'm busier then I can believe with the teddy-bear side of business, but my mum has sewn us up a few items to see us through. We also have patterns for guinea pig plush igloo hidey beds that you can sew yourself...

As well as patterns for making your own plushie guinea pigs too! (Please note that we can take custom orders for look-a-like plushie guinea pigs that replicate your live guinea pig, but the wait list is around 11-12months at present).
