Apologies and welcome

A very warm welcome to all of the new blog visitors we've had over the last week! It's lovely to have you stop by. I hope you're able to find what you're looking for in terms of guinea-pig related information, or are simply enjoying the thousands of guinea pig photos we've posted over the years.

Appologies for the lack of posts here lately, there's not a lot is happening with the pigs this year. Our breeding program is now VERY small, and we are only averaging one litter once in a blue moon. Most of our girls are retired and enjoying life in their massive grass hutch (that I have to haul around the yard every day! Have I mentioned how HEAVY that bloody thing is!!!?).

We now only have one male - our black/white-nose peruvian boar born here last year. We've kept him on just as pet and occasional stud-boy (there were some genetic quirks I wanted to confirm with his line, but he will likely end up desexed long term.

But other then that - there's not much more to report. So i'll just re-post a few of my favourite old photos from the earlier years of this blog. Past pigs who have since passed away, but lived long happy piggy lives while they were here.

And as always, if you're looking for any cavy-related bedding, feel free to check out our available stock. There's not a lot as I'm busier then I can believe with the teddy-bear side of business, but my mum has sewn us up a few items to see us through. We also have patterns for guinea pig plush igloo hidey beds that you can sew yourself...

As well as patterns for making your own plushie guinea pigs too! (Please note that we can take custom orders for look-a-like plushie guinea pigs that replicate your live guinea pig, but the wait list is around 11-12months at present).

Sweet Harriet

This gorgeous ball of curls is our sweet Harriet. She doesn't always look this fluffy, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to grab some photos while she does look like this. Ideally it would be wonderful if she could pause her coat growth right here - it would be a lot nicer for her and me! But this is really only the start of how fluffy she will get in a few more months.

Harriet is a long-coated breed, which means her hair will grow constantly throughout her life. We trimmed her right back at the start of summer to keep her cool (as her hair was down-to-the-ground long, and then she also lost a lot of coat density when she delivered her last litter a few months back.

But now it has begun to grow out again, and is at the most beautiful length. Not so long that it drags on the ground, and not so short that she just looks like a rex! The Swiss breed maintains a similar length (slightly different coat-texture though), but we don't have that breed here in Australia.

And these are just a few quick snaps of some of the pigs playing in the grass pen. They love having all of the hutches to run in and out of. :)

An article in the PETS magazine

We were interviewed recently for an article on guinea pigs in the PETS magazine. Our copy of the magazine arrived earlier in the week. If you click on the images you'll be able to enlarge them to possibly read it :)

We also have some new guinea pig bedding items in stock in our store - including these cute little cozy beds and some new cuddle sacks. All of our bedding items can be found on our website.

Three new arrivals

This morning we had three gorgeous new arrivals - two little boys and a girl. This litter includes 2 'curly sheba' bubs and one standard sheba. We've popped the two litters together, and it is crazy to see the size difference 5 days has made with the litter we had born on Saturday. Both mums are tolerating each other and bubs are sharing milk - that is what I like to see :)

These are the 5 day old bubs born on saturday. They're already getting the fluffy-look as their coats begin growing :)

March baby

This handsome big boy was born at approximately 7am on saturday the 19th March. He has two siblings (equally gorgeous, and equally big brother and sister) - and everyone is doing really well. He is a peruvian-coated pig (with a few stray rosettes), but will be STUNNING when that lilac, gold and white coat grows in.

We shared a quick video of him on our facebook page as well.

Oh! And I totally forgot to mention that we had new piggy bedding restocked on our website too - it has been a little while since I've had the time to sew anything guinea pig related (as we've been run off our feet with the bears), so I asked my mum if she'd be able to help us out as bit - and she's done a fantastic job.

There are a heap of new Roll Ups (my personal favourite), and new cuddle sacks due to be listed in the next week!

Our first 2016 bubs

We had our first arrivals for 2016 on the weekend. Such gorgeous colours. Both boys have homes lined up already :)

Peruvian baby boy

This handsome little man is the last Bub we have available at the moment, and we have no other single boars to pair him with like we usually would. He would be the perfect companion for an older single boar, if you have one who is a bit lonely, as he's still young and won't be considered a threat.
He is a long-coated breed, so will need extra coat-care, but if you're interested in him send me an email (eleb2000@hotmail.com). Please remember though that we do NOT 'ship' guinea pigs internationally, so you will need to live in the Brisbane/sunshine coast area.
