Capalaba Produce (and the Texels!)

Off to Capalaba Produce again this morning (we called first this time to make sure they had hay... and they did!). Chelsea likes to visit the animals first. They have a little farmyard set up to the side of the property. It's pretty cool for 'city kids' to be able to see some sheep, pony, goats, chickens and pigs up close.

After we'd said hello to all the animals, we ventured into the hay shed...

The greener hay is prime lucerne, and the browner stuff is grassy hay. Sugar cane is right at the far end. We ordered a bale of the lucerne. It looks ok this week. Not as soft as I have seen it, but I couldn't see any prickles... so fingers crossed it'll still look ok when I start to pull it apart.

Oh, and as a final stop, we thought we'd check out the guinea pig section. Look who was sitting in there waiting for us - two pedigree texel boy guinea pigs! How handsome are they!!!

The staff must have thought I was a bit of a nutter because I probably hovered around there for about 20mins trying to decide if I should buy them or not. In the end I decided we really didn't 'need' any more... even thought they were stunning!!! So, if you're looking for a pedigree texel, maybe give capalaba produce a call? (p.s. - I actually don't get paid by Capalaba Produce... I just think they're awesome!)

The Weekly Weights

Here's this weeks weigh in, for Sunday the 11th September 2011:

*** Liam's Love Shack ***
Liam is 880g (lost 10g) - 23wks (5.5m)
Ginger is 935g (same) - 25wks (6m)
(We had a change-over this week, Ruby moved out when I realised how far pregnant she already was, and Ginger moved in. The change can sometimes cause a bit of stress. Hopefully Ginger and Liam will have accepted each others company by next week's weigh in!)

*** Sprout's Pad ***
Sprout is 810g (gained 55g) - 22wks (5.5m)
Kobe is 835g (gained 75g) - 28wks (7m) (Pregnant, due approx 12/10/11)
(These two are rockin' out! They really are the best of friends. It will be so sad to have to take Kobe away as she gets nearer to her due date. But I've got Subi lined up to take her place when I do. Hopefully Sprout has a thing for the golden-agoutis!)

Bodie is 210g (gained 55g) - 2 weeks
Ben is 210g (gained 65g) - 2 weeks

What a week! That was a lot of weight gain, especially from the newbies, the nursing bubs and the pregnant girls. Which is really good to see. Obviously the newbies (Elodie, Malakai, and Millicent) are settling in pretty well, and the babies are getting some nice rich milk from Sheba. I'm a little concerned that she's lost weight again. But considering the amount the boys have packed on this week, I'm thinking it's probably amazing that her loss was only 25g!

And a special mention needs to go out to Ruby and Galaxy - 145g and 155g gains respectively. That is such a good sign that those little bubbas are growing nice and strong, and that the girls are getting all the nutrients they need. Nothing makes me happier than watching piggies eating! They're such grateful little creatures.

And speaking of eating - we've had so many mouths to feed this month, that I've had to do the hay/grain shop a week early! So off I went to Capalaba Produce again on Saturday morning - only to discover that they didn't have any suitable hay. So, I ended up buying a MASSIVE bag of premium chaff instead. Along with my usual trolley full of grain/food mix. Capalaba really do a good mix - this is an example of a batch I got a few trips ago. I've jazzed up this month's mix with a few special extras - we'll soon see if they pigs like it (or if it was a waste of time!).
