Beautiful Boris

Beautiful Boris is approaching his first birthday - and celebrated with a pretty new hair bow! (lol - I don't actually think he liked his new look very much. Luckily we only kept him like this long enough to snap a pic!)

New bubs!

We knew one of our gorgeous girls was due soon, but I didn't realise how soon! Only two days after setting her up in the maternity suite we came home to find three stunning little bubs.

I had expected to see curly-coated bubs (mum is our long-curly-rosetted girl 'Harriet', and dad is our lilac alpaca 'Dante'), but we got three straight-coated sheba-type bubs instead. The only explaination for this is the old different-origin-curl-gene issue that I've witnessed a few times in the past. I was under the impression that cavies with 'foreign' curl genes are fairly rare in Australia due to our stick no-import laws... but this is getting rediculous!

These three will be stunning regardless though, and will all grow long straight coats that stick up in all directions. The bub at the top of the page is 'Harry'. He is lilac with a splash of gold and white.

The bub below is 'Hayley'. She is lemon agouti, cream and white. And the bub below her is 'Ham' - he is also a tri-agouti, but with a darker gold agouti base.

The weather is really starting to cool down here in Brisbane now too. So we've whipped up a few new piggy bedding items. We're also taking part in an online 'Pet Palooza' show this weekend for makers of all things pet related - and we have a few handmade items available there as well if you'd like to check it out. A lot of the bigger art dolls have been adopted already, but most of the bedding is still available.

Afternoon tea and guinea pig plushie kits

I was giving the girls in the barn cage their afternoon tea today, and Quinn, Eloise and Curly Sue all lined up nicely around their capscium - so I decided to snap a quick pic. It looks like Eloise is smiling! They do enjoy their capsicum here. Some pigs more then others - but we try to include it every week as it is so rich in vitamin C that a little goes a long way to providing the pigs with their essential requirements. Fresh green grass everyday also helps :)

And later on in the evening I was asked to set up a kit listing for our exclusive 'realistic guinea pig' plushie design. We currently have three fabric options in the guinea pig kits - but if you're a little more quirky and would like to make a non-realisticly coloured cavy plushie just let us know and we can set up a custom kit just for you :)

These are just a few photos to catch you guys up on the goings-on in around the caviary. We really have been very slack with the blog since we disbanded our predigree breeding program. But we still have pet cavies, and there's still a fair bit going on behind the scenes here!

The photo above was taken a few days ago from inside our newly custom-built 'guinea pig tractor'. We keep the upstairs level as the sleeping area and fill it with all the soft beds and igloos. Occasionally the pigs must push the beds too close to the ramp and we find them set up down in the grassy area. This time both Cherry and Bonnie decided to squeeze themselves into one of our 'Piggy Roll-Ups'. (these are really only meant for one pig! lol)

And this was a quick, late afternoon snap of our beautiful 'Betty'. She got a trim shortly after this due to the rediculous heat that SHOULD have left us already! It's Autumn for goodness sake Australia!

And below we have little 'Midget'. She is such a pretty little thing - and quite a feisty one too!

This photo is one of kobe with my daughter. Kobe recovered very well after her traumatic brush with heatstroke a few months ago. She's never regained all of the weight she lost, but I don't think that was such a bad thing (as she was a VERY round girl). She is starting to show signs of ageing though, but I think she will be around for at least another year or so yet. Fingers crossed.

These two cuties were two of Boris' sons from the two litters we had born in January. These little guys have all found their new homes. We met some truely beautiful families during the hand-over process of these bubs.

And below we attempted to do a girl's line up - but the instagram frame cutoff all but Kobe, Lucy and Buttons! lol.

And this stunning boy is our sole 'pedigree' pig - our little man 'Ohana The Lucky One'.

New piggy bedding items

We've been crazy busy over at our bear making business lately so the piggy bedding items have been severely neglected! We have just added 5 new cuddle sack styles though - and I am LOVING these colour combos. Pop on over to the website to have a look at what we have in stock now :)

Boris and Lucky

I had posted these images to our Sirocco Facebook page a little while ago, but forgot to post them here. They show how much the boys have grown! Their coats are fantastic and they look so similar in colouring its hard to believe there's no relation there at all.

As far as a boy pair goes, these two are very cruizy. Never any fighting. Just the occasional bottom-wiggling - but its all over with in about 3seconds. Its like neither of them could really be bothered!
